The Westminster Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 2889, was officially chartered in 1987 to represent the dedicated firefighters serving the City of Westminster. From the beginning, Local 2889 has stood for professionalism, unity, and advocacy—working to protect the rights and safety of our members while ensuring the highest level of emergency service to our community.

Our history has been defined by resilience and progress. One of our most significant milestones came through a determined, multi-year campaign to secure collective bargaining rights. That grassroots effort, supported by the community and our labor partners, led to the ratification of our first collective bargaining agreement in 2017. This transformative achievement gave our members a formal voice in shaping working conditions, safety standards, and operational priorities.
